Question About Chase Point's?
I have a question about the chase point's that I don't understand even though I've followed the sport since 1993.
Okay at one point in the race today Tony was second and they showed him as first in point's Jimmie Johnson was way back in the 20's or 30's . However a few lap's later Jimmie moved up a little ,but was still behind Tony yet he was ahead of Tony in the point's . Can someone please explain how this works. Thanks!
When you gain or lose positions, you gain or lose points.
... the winner earns 185 points. The rest of the top 6 are separated by 5 points. (170, 165, 160, 155). Then 6th to 11th is separated by 4 points. (150, 146, 142, 138, 134, 130). Everyone else is separated by 3 points. (127 to 34). Prior to the 2006 season, the winner earned 180 points. If a driver leads at least a single lap, they earn and extra five (5) points. The driver who leads the most laps earns an extra an extra five (5) points.
