Busch Stadium – a sports fan Mecca!
Home to the well known league Baseball team, St. Louis Cardinals, the Busch Stadium is also identified as the New Busch Stadium. The current stadium is the third to be called Busch and the initial stadium was identified by Sportsman’s Park, which was later renamed as Busch Stadium in respect of Gussie Busch, the owner of the Cardinals team.
Following a long and hard battle on funding, the ‘New’ Busch Stadium was built in April 2006. The well known HOK Sport designed the stadium and it was created in three phases by the renowned Hunt Construction. The three main phases were the creation of the new stadium’s south side, the knocking down of the previous Busch Memorial Stadium and finally the building of the stadium’s north side. By the time the stadium was officially opened it had a seating capacity of 37,000. In May the same year once the stadium was completed, the seating capacity stood at an astounding 46,000.
The ‘New’ Busch Stadium was designed and built quite remarkably with stunning panoramic views of St. Louis downtown area along with the Gateway Arch. Some traditional features of the old stadium such as the red seats and green fences have been protected. Despite making use of a modern electronic scoreboard, the previous scoreboard still remains as a memento. Additionally, statues of former Cardinal players have been built at the entrance of the stadium.
2006 was one of the biggest years of Busch Stadium with more than 3.4 million people attending the games during the season. The stadium also hosted its first ever World Series games with the Cardinals winning the World Series Championship for the 10th time. Furthermore, in 2009 the stadium hosted the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Fans arriving at the Busch Stadium in order to sight the action are offered an extensive range of drink and food options. Fans can easily plan their stay in a Downtown St. Louis hotel such as the Millennium Hotel St. Louis that provides unparallel services to ensure a comfortable stay in the city and in close proximity to the phenomenal Busch Stadium.
