This article says ratings dropped 50% because Tiger (golf's most popular player) has been absent from the course. What would be impact if Dale Jr (NASCAR's most popular driver) was to be absent from NASCAR?

The JR worshipers, aka JR Nation, wouldn't know what to do. Would it impact the sport? Let's leave it at this, I dare you to go to WalMart, the Dollar Tree, any outdoors store, and well, anywhere you can find NASCAR stuff, and tell me if there isn't a single Jr item. He is NASCAR, and without him, I think NASCAR would drop back down to it's 1980's viewer numbers where it was still mostly the south watching.
