Franchitti to Compete in 2008 Nationwide Series
Dario Franchitti will compete in the 2008 Nationwide Series. The information was recently announced by the Chip Ganassi Racing. The move is said to be an effort to follow the footprints of Franchitti’s teammate Juan Pablo Montoya in his full season in NASCAR. To note, the present Busch Series will be replaced by the Nationwide Series from next season.
"I'm very pleased to bring Fastenal into the Nationwide Series as a primary sponsor and look forward to working together with them in introducing Dario to NASCAR fans and also introducing NASCAR fans to Dario wherever in the world they may be. We have an exciting Nationwide Series program beginning next season with the No.40 team that will help acclimate Dario to stock car racing much like we did with Juan Pablo [Montoya] last season," said Franchitti's boss Chip Ganassi.
Earlier this year, Franchitti was announced as the driver of the No. 40 Dodge in the 2008 Sprint Cup Series to serve as replacement for David Stremme. The Scot will be the first European driver in the 59-year history of NASCAR to join the series full-time. He will start the season in February at Daytona.
With Franchitti around, the team sponsored by the maker of Dodge bed mat expects to grab a better edge.
Fastenal, a leader in the industrial and construction supplies, has been named as the sponsor for Franchitti's car in the series, having signed a multi-year deal with Chip Ganassi Racing, AutoSport reported.
Additionally, the company will also feature in a number of races as the sponsor of the No. 41 car of Ganassi racer Reed Sorenson in the Sprint Cup Series. The sponsors for the IRL Indy Car Series and Indy 500 champion have yet to be divulged.
"We had a great experience with Bobby Hamilton Racing, and we'll always be honored to be a part of Bobby Hamilton's racing legacy," said Fastenal Company President and CEO Will Oberton. "At the same time, we're excited to move up to the Nationwide Series and thrilled to join the Ganassi Dodge racing team. I think I speak for a lot of our employees, suppliers and customers when I say that I can't wait for Dario to get behind the wheel of the No.40 Fastenal Dodge in 2008."
The company’s program will feature Franchitti as the car's primary driver and also include select races with his CGRFS Nascar Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) teammate Reed Sorenson behind the wheel.
Fastenal is one of the fastest growing full-line industrial suppliers worldwide. It provides 700,000 varieties of industrial and construction supplies through 12 regional distribution centers in the United States and over 2,100 Fastenal stores spanning North America and the world.
Fastenal will kick off its association with CGRFS at its annual employee expo in Orlando set on December 6-7. It will be launching Franchitti to more than 2,000 employees. Reports said the company is stepping up to CGRFS and the Nationwide Series following two seasons in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series as the primary sponsor of Bobby Hamilton Racing's No. 18 Dodge truck.
