Bmw’s Heidfeld Ready for Home Race
The tenth race of the Formula One season will be held at the Nürburgring in Nurburg, Germany. BMW Sauber’s German Formula One driver Nick Heidfeld will soon be racing in front of his countrymen and the driver is visibly excited. This year will be the first one since 1994 that Germany will host only a single Grand Prix. This means that Heidfeld will only have one shot this year to give his countrymen a good show.
Called the European Grand Prix, the race will be held at ‘The Ring’ and BMW Sauber will be going into the race third in the constructors’ championship standings. The duo of Nick Heidfeld and teammate Robert Kubica will no doubt be aiming to increase their lead over fourth place and defending world champions Renault. The race is slated to be held on the 22nd of this month.
As part of BMW Sauber’s participation at the European Grand Prix, they will be allowing fans to learn more about the sport by allowing them to ask what is it they want to know from Formula One experts as well as from the other members of the team. Fans can also try their hands at changing tires or refueling a Formula One car.
Heidfeld is obviously looking forward to his home race and is looking for a good performance at the Nürburgring. “I am very much looking forward to the race on the Nürburgring. That's where the greatest number of my fans have always turned up, and thanks to this year's good results there will probably be a few more. When I drove the Formula One car round the Nordschleife at the end of April, the atmosphere there was fantastic.”
“It's a good feeling having that kind of support, and one or other family members will also be coming along to the Ring. As a young kid I already had a lot of outings to the Nürburgring with my father and my two brothers as it isn't far away from Monchengladbach. Later on there were race wins in various classes to add to those pleasant childhood memories,” he added.
As for their team’s performance, especially the F1.07 car with the BMW engine and racing parts as durable as BMW 525i parts, Heidfeld has this to say: “I think we're pretty well prepared for the Ring. Our performance potential is a great motivator. Naturally it's a lot more fun when you know you're essentially in contention for points and good placings. If qualifying turns out better for me than at the last race in Silverstone, I should also be back in the running for the race.”
The German Formula One driver posted his highest finish this season at second place at the Canadian Grand Prix but was forced to retire on the next race - the United States Grand Prix. Going back to Europe, Heidfeld shows consistency as he finished fifth at the French Grand Prix and sixth at the British Grand Prix. Heidfeld is currently fifth on the drivers’ championship standing with 33 points to his credit. He is trailing the four drivers from McLaren and Ferrari who are locked in a competitive race for the championship. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are leading the duo of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa in the standings respectively.
