I have some questions, as I'm a newcomer to Nascar.?
Hey, I'm starting to get into NASCAR as of this year, after playing Nascar 09, and meeting Jimmie Johnson last summer. Just some questions.
- How come Matt Kenseth is (well... was) driving another car in today's race. Did he switch teams?? For the past 2 races he was driving in the DeWalt car, but this race he was driving in a blue and red car.
- Is the championship determined by just the amount of points each racer gets, or is there a playoff system in place??
- Why do drivers swerve left and right in zig zag fashion while they're under caution?
Thanks!
Welcome to NASCAR Nation. Matt Kenseth was driving the same car for the same team. The sponsor for this race was different, so that means they paid more $$$$ and get the bigger advertising. The drivers usually have a couple ob basic paint schemes with different major sponsors for specific races. Like Dale Jr., he has the blue and white National Guard car and the green AMP car.
Championship is determined by points for the first 26 races. Then the top 12 in points move in to what they call the "Chase". They start over in points for the last 10 races. At the end of that, the one with the most points is Cup Champion.
The drivers swerve back and forth for 2 reasons. 1: to clean the debris off the tires and 2: to warm up fresh tires during a caution.
