2007 Tour De France Champion Without Team
After being the winner of the most prestigious cycling competition for the last eight consecutive years, with Lance Armstrong seven times champion (1999 to 2005) and Floyd Landis (2006) Discovery Channel that started under the name U.S. Postal announced officially that this was the last year of the team. According to the their leaders is not easy to find sponsoring for high level cycling, because of so many scandals concerning doping, they said it is “odd for big companies to get involved with the sport”. Bill Stepleton Discovery Channel’s general manager said it was a tough decision after this year’s victory.
Contador’s career has not being easy, in 2004 he suffered a cerebral commotion when he fall during the Vuelta a Asturias and was in coma for 10 days. Then his name was involved in the “Puerto Operation” scandal; until February of this year he did not have a team and the most important squad, Discovery Channel, hired him.
Last Friday august 10th Contador visited Jaime Lissayetsky, Estate Secretary for the Sport, after not being welcomed to participate in the Hamburg Cyclassics Grand Prix because he is considered an “undesirable cyclist”.
It is gong to be hard for him to find a new team, because he has a high price and he is worth it. Contador keeps on defending his innocence he asked for thrust in him and cycling in a press release, he also said he wants to compete and make cycling an attractive and admired sport, he is absolutely committed against doping.
